Hi there,
I am an actor. I’ve wanted to be one for as long as I remember. I can’t say it’s all I’ve ever wanted to be, but it is the only profession that inspired my entire self. Math, Science, History, Religion, Sports all took center stage at one time or another, but all faded to hobby when I started acting.
In High School, it started as an outlet – a place for exploration and experimentation. In college, it became something more.
I was enrolled in the Theatre program of the University of Massachusetts @ Amherst. During a 6 week winter break, I was in an Ecole Jacques Lecoq Mask Technique class, DJ-ing at the local radio station, and working the Graveyard shift at a grocery store.
Since I was one of the few who was awake at 7am, I was asked to open and prep the theatre for class. One morning, armed with coffee and very little sleep, I shuffled into the Curtain Theatre, swept and mopped the stage and laid down with the hope of getting an hour or two of sleep. The overhead lights prevented a relaxing setting for sleep, so I took out the Ghost Light, shut off the overheads, and tried again.
As I sat in the dark theatre, the solitary Ghost Light eerily glowed. The cage surrounding the bare bulb cast grid-like shadows over the barely illuminated space.
Through exhausted eyes, I began to see things. I flashed on the dozen or so sets I had helped build in that space. I saw images of the shows I had seen there and been a part of. But then I saw something new – I saw possibilities. I saw a fraction of what could only be described as the infinity of theatre.
At that moment, I fell in love.
Now I’m in Los Angeles, making a career at the only profession that has never bored me, and continues to inspire and enlighten.
